To Bill Desmond's Family,
Just heard of Bill's passing. I hadn't seen him since our twenties. Knew him since kindergarten and attebded school with him through Marian Central. A favorite memory was Bill and I traveling in his Alfa Romero to Florida to pick up his Brother Tim at the University of Tampa to bring him home for Christmas break. Of course it took a whole week after arriving in Tampa before the three of us piled into that 2 seater Alfa for the trip back to Woodstock. I don't remember it being uncomfortable at all. A classic road trip
May you rest in peace Bill. Save a spot for the rest of us.

A call from an old high school friend sent news of Bill's recent passing. Bill and I were in many classes together at Marian Central and he worked with me on the Senior yearbook doing his fine hand block lettering and illustrations including the Porky the Pig "That's all folks!" cartoon at the end of the book. We also worked on many signs, and posters for the many events that livened up the hallways and were in art/photo classes together. Bill was multi talented and had a fantastic quiet but witty sense of humor. At the time he was into sports cars and loved to cruise in his little car (an MG or an Alpha Romeo?) on the country roads near Woodstock. We listened to The Band, Grateful Dead, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and friends (Doc Watson etc.) and the like. We had some fun climbing on the old antique locomotives and parlor cars in the early days of the nearby Railway museum and we would take photos at the site when it was merely a bunch of railroad cars scattered about in an open farm field. Bill had a great mind and a kind and gentle spirit. I feel lucky to have spent some quality time with such a fine person as Bill. I am deeply saddened for the Desmond family and friends for the loss of Bill. He will be truly missed. Mary Orso

Dear Desmond families,
To be lucky enough to have known Bill in my youth was enough. BUT, To know Bill as a treasured friend for most of my life was a gift.
If you wanted a friend that possessed the qualities of high level thinking and rationalization, humorous conversation to the point of having to pull off the road while driving because you were laughing too hard, someone to hang with and listen to Record collections and just have a relaxing beer, play golf with numerous weekends , go on road trips during severe snow storms, go to Disney with your first time, learn the finer points of why Wisconsin Fish Frys were much better than any other states Fish Frys, learn how to make a Brandy Old Fashioned ( the old fashioned way), learning how to be patient from a man that had all the patience in the world, learn how to take photos from angles and of things that I never would have thought worthwhile but were artistic and could be characterized as simple but brilliant, to discuss why baseball teams mattered but didn’t if you were for the WhiteSox ( ok. That one was a slight disagreement) , and now to know what DEEP sadness is because he will be sorrowfully missed.
I send my prayers to his family who have been generous and kind to me since I have met them.
May Bill Rest In Peace.

I was saddened to learn of Bill’s passing. I became friends with Bill at Marian. He was a gentle person with a kind heart. I loved his strange sense of humor that fit in well with our group. I will always remember for spirit week one year he was one the main artists that drew the huge mouth off the album, Court of the Crimson King. Going down the hall we would all walk through it. He had so many talents. My thoughts go out him and the family. He will be missed.

I have worked with Bill the last 15 years. He was one of the first people I met at Oracle. I was in awe of his ability as well as his generous spirit and patience as he helped me become part of the Oracle team. But I will remember Bill mostly as the kind, bright, fair and generous friend. He will be in my prayers this Lenten season.

I am deeply saddened of the loss of this extraordinary person. My heartfelt condolences to his family. I am very sorry for your loss. We will all miss the presence of this kind gentleman.
As to how I knew Bill. Our paths first crossed at Marian Central high school and we became close friends. We soon learned that our uncles had also been close friends in an earlier time. We had many fun experiences together through our early 20's that I will cherish. I moved to Seattle, raised a family and didn't stay in touch with him that much after those days. I did have the privilege of speaking to him last fall.
One of the things that I'll relate about Bill was his great sense of humor. He was a voracious reader, including comics and he had excellent reading taste. The classic cult comic "The Fan Man" by William Kotzwinkle comes to mind. I'll never forget him laughing uproariously as he read a few passages from that book to me. He was also a great music fan and a fellow Grateful Dead aficionado. We attended many shows together.
I don't know a single person who got to know him that didn't love him. I'll miss him.
Vaya con dios, friend.
